Sita Soren: On Tuesday, Sita Soren, an MLA from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, tendered her resignation from all positions within the party.

According to PTI, on Tuesday, she submitted her resignation letter to Shibu Soren, the party’s supreme leader and her father-in-law.

Sita Soren, a three-time MLA, is the wife of the former Chief Minister’s elder brother, Durga Soren, who tragically passed away in 2009 at the young age of 39.

Sita Soren’s resignation from the JMM coincided with heightened political tension in Jharkhand. In August 2022, she vocalized grievances against the Hemant Soren administration, citing its failure to address rampant land exploitation in the mineral-abundant region. This move underscored underlying rifts within the party and stirred broader discussions on governance and resource management. Sita Soren’s departure marked a significant development in Jharkhand’s political landscape, signaling potential shifts in power dynamics. The episode shed light on longstanding issues of accountability and governance in the state, sparking debates and reshaping political narratives.   – Jharkhand

In January of this year, amid the threat of arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Hemant Soren faced pressure within the JMM to implement a contingency plan. As part of this ‘Plan B,’ the party sought to position his wife, Kalpana, as his potential successor. The move reflected the party’s efforts to navigate a precarious political situation and ensure continuity in leadership amidst legal challenges.
