The new Election Commission members’ appointments bill from the Centre: How it intends to change the procedure

New Election Commission member appointment bill from Centre
Currently, the Prime Minister is given a list of potential candidates to choose from by the Law Minister. On the Prime Minister’s recommendation, the President appoints the person. The Bill seeks to change this procedure.

A Bill was scheduled to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, August 10, with the intention of overriding the impact of the Supreme Court decision regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs).
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will be chosen by a committee that will be comprised of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and a Cabinet Minister of the Prime Minister’s choosing.
What was the SC’s decision?
The Chief Justice of India, the Prime Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha must form a high-power committee to choose the CEC and ECs, the Supreme Court’s five-judge bench declared unanimously on March 2.
