Lakshadweep boasts perfect spots for water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and undersea walking. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the island in January, a greater number of people became aware of India’s hidden gem.
As per Imthias Mohammed, a Lakshadweep Tourism officer, there has been an increase in inquiries for tourism in the island region following PM Modi’s visit, indicating a ripple effect.
“The significance of PM Modi’s visit is substantial; we’re witnessing a surge in inquiries from both domestic and international tourism sectors,” he informed news agency ANI.
Regarding future initiatives of the tourism department, he stated, “Lakshadweep aims to encourage additional cruise ship companies.”
Mohammed is optimistic that once air connectivity to the island is optimized, it will enhance the flow of tourists.
PM Modi’s highly discussed visit to the island appears to have dispelled numerous myths linked with the island cluster in the Arabian Sea.
Speaking to ANI, Aman Singh, a tourist from Mumbai, expressed, “We had been wanting to visit Lakshadweep for quite some time, but there were numerous myths surrounding the island. However, PM Modi’s visit had such an impact that it became evident that visiting is indeed possible.”
Sumit Anand, another traveler from Delhi, mentioned that he had always harbored a desire to visit Lakshadweep Island. However, it wasn’t until he saw photos and videos of PM Modi’s visit that he decided to make the archipelago his next destination.
The visit of PM Modi to Lakshadweep
On January 4, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep had garnered global attention towards the archipelago and its vast tourism potential.
“Through his visit to Lakshadweep, PM @narendramodi has emphasized its significant tourism potential. This serves as a remarkable inspiration for us all. Increased visitors will not only contribute to the prosperity of Lakshadweep but also allow them to immerse in its distinct culture and traditions,” stated the External Affairs Minister on his official X handle.
PM Modi paid a visit to the Union Territory of Lakshadweep and shared numerous pictures, one of which captured his ‘exhilarating experience’ as he tried snorkeling.

In a sequence of posts on X, PM Modi shared images showcasing the white beaches, pristine blue skies, and the ocean, accompanied by a message urging, “For those inclined towards adventure, a visit to Lakshadweep is a must.”
