A member of the Republican Party has put forth a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize for former US President Donald Trump. The nomination is based on Trump’s Abraham Accords policy, signed during his presidency in 2020, which facilitated the normalization of relations between multiple countries in the Middle East.

A Republican legislator has nominated ex-US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting his involvement in the Abraham Accords treaty signed during his presidency. The accord led to the formal normalization of relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE.

This is Trump’s fourth nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to a report from the UK-based newspaper The Independent, New York representative Claudia Tenney stated in a press release that Trump played an “instrumental” role in brokering the initial Middle East peace accords in over thirty years. For years, bureaucrats, foreign policy ‘experts’, and international organizations asserted that achieving further Middle East peace agreements was impossible without a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Trump demonstrated that to be untrue, she remarked.

Advocating for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Tenney asserted, “President Trump’s remarkable endeavors in establishing the Abraham Accords were unprecedented and persistently overlooked by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, emphasizing the urgency of his nomination today.” “In these times, with Joe Biden’s perceived weak leadership on the global stage posing a threat to our country’s safety and security, it becomes imperative to acknowledge Trump for his robust leadership and endeavors toward global peace. I am honored to officially nominate former President Donald Trump today and eagerly anticipate his well-deserved recognition,” she expressed in her statement.

While the 2020 signing of the Abraham Accords was viewed as an effort to initiate and enhance Israeli-Arab relations, it faced criticism for not providing a conclusive resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite facing criticism for his foreign policy decisions while in office, the 77-year-old Republican leader, Trump, received multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. However, he did not secure the coveted award. In 2019, during a press conference in New York, the former US president remarked, “I believe I would be awarded a Nobel Prize for many accomplishments, if it were distributed fairly, which, unfortunately, it is not.”

In 2020, The Independent reported that far-right Norwegian politician Christian Tybring-Gjedde nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, lauding his endeavors to enhance relations between North Korea and South Korea. Trump made history as the first US President to set foot in North Korea alongside Kim Jong-Un. Despite a short-lived period of reconciliation, discussions regarding North Korea’s denuclearization fell apart. Pyongyang voiced frustration with Washington’s refusal to ease sanctions in return for halting nuclear weapons production.

During that year, Swedish lawmaker Magnus Jacobsson nominated Trump for his involvement in negotiating a deal to normalize relations between Serbia and Kosovo. In the subsequent year, Swedish nationalist MP Laura Huhtasaari, along with a group of Australian lawmakers, nominated Trump for his contribution to the Abraham Accords. Nevertheless, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Filipino and Russian journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov, who were recognized “for their endeavors to protect freedom of expression, a crucial prerequisite for democracy and enduring peace.”

In 2018, a coalition of 18 House Republicans officially put forth a nomination for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, acknowledging his efforts to bring about the conclusion of the Korean War.
