AP train collision: Because of a lack of signal, a special passenger train from Visakhapatnam to Palasa had stopped on tracks between Alamanda and Kantakapalle near Kothsavatsala when the Vizag-Raigad passenger train rammed it, derailing three coaches.

According to police, nine people were killed and 40 were injured when two trains collided in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, months after a horrific three-train collision in Odisha killed over 280 people.

“According to the data, there are 9 casualties and 29 people have been injured,” Biswajit Sahu, CPRO, East Coast Railway, previously told news agency ANI.

Images from the scene showed the derailed coaches and people swarming around them.

According to railway sources, the tragedy was caused by human error, with the loco pilot failing to notice signaling.

The situation is being monitored by a war room in the Delhi Railway Ministry, according to a Railways source.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the situation with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed his condolences for the loss of life in the accident.

The Chief Minister expressed his profound dismay over the tragic Kantakapalli train accident in the Vizianagaram district on the official social media platform. The Chief Minister’s office released a statement directing officials to prioritize providing immediate medical aid to injured parties and to expeditiously implement relief measures.

The Chief Minister urged the deployment of more ambulances from surrounding districts like Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli, stressing the gravity of the situation. He also emphasized the importance of making all necessary arrangements for medical care in nearby hospitals. He was also to be informed on a regular basis about the incident.

Aswini Vaishnaw, Minister of Union Railways, called the Chief Minister regarding the mishap.

The Chief Minister notified him that rescue teams had been dispatched to the scene of the accident and that the District Collector, the SP, and Education Minister B Satyanarayana were overseeing the relief and rescue efforts.

He also informed the Union Minister that all preparations had been made for the injured to be treated in the surrounding hospitals.
