Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023: At the Swach Survekshan Awards, which took place in New Delhi on Thursday, Surat took home the title for the first time, while Indore received the cleanest city honor for the second time. According to the Central government’s annual cleanliness survey, the “cleanest cities” in the nation are Surat and Indore, while Navi Mumbai continues to rank third. The poll’s results were released on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra was named the cleanest state, followed by Madhya Pradesh. Safaimitra Surakshit Shehar of Chandigarh received the prize for the city with the finest sanitation worker safety regulations. Varanasi has been recognized as the cleanest “Ganga town” in India.
Indore won the title of cleanest city for the seventh time in a row.

Initiated in 2016 under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, the annual awards ceremony aimed at recognizing cleanliness achievements reached a significant milestone in 2023. The evaluation spanned 4,416 urban local bodies, 61 cantonments, and 88 Ganga towns. The Ministry reported an extensive engagement process, including 1.58 crore online citizen feedback submissions and 19.82 lakh face-to-face interactions, contributing to the comprehensive ranking assessment.
