Ramulamma: The departure of actress Vijayashanthi aka Ramulamma from the BJP comes just two weeks before the Telangana Assembly elections (Nov 30). Vijayashanthi submitted her resignation to state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy. Vijayashanthi was also left off the BJP’s final list. According to the BJP, Vijayashanthi was not active in the party and thus was not given the MLA ticket. Shanthi has decided to leave the party due to the ticket denial. According to reports, Vijayashanthi is expected to join the Congress party on Friday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.
Following the departure of former MPs Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, G Vivekanand, and Enugu Ravinder from the Lotus party, Vijayashanthi is the fourth significant leader to quit the BJP in less than a month. Vivekanand and Rajagopal Reddy are already members of the Congress.
Numerous turns have been taken in Vijayashanthi’s political career. She first joined the BJP in 1997 and served as its women’s wing’s general secretary. She did, however, quit the BJP in 2005 to start her group, Talli Telangana, which promoted Telangana’s independence. She later combined Talli Telangana with TRS (now BRS), and in 2009 she won a seat in the Lok Sabha from the Medak constituency.
Vijayashanthi briefly joined the Congress after being suspended by the TRS (now BRS) in 2013 for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities. He unsuccessfully ran for office in the 2014 elections from the Medak Assembly seat. She returned to politics in 2017 with the Congress after a spell of comparatively little activity, but in 2020 she rejoined the BJP.
After a 13-year absence from acting to concentrate on her political career, Vijayashanthi returned to the screen in 2020 with Mahesh Babu’s “Sarileru Neekevvaru.” Vijayashanthi didn’t, however, land any big roles after this. She is once more involved in politics.
