Ram Navami at Ayodhya temple: Ram Lalla’s much-awaited Surya tilak’ took place around yesterday midday, and the celestial event lasted four minutes.

On Wednesday, April 17, thousands of devotees flocked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to commemorate Ram Navami. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesperson Sharad Sharma stated that the Ram Navami celebrations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya have been anxiously anticipated for 500 years, and the entire country is pleased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings for Ram Navami, noting Ayodhya’s unparalleled joy as it celebrates the festival for the first time following the consecration of the Ram temple.

At noon, the long-awaited ‘Surya Abhishek’ of Ram Lalla took place, lasting for four minutes. During this period, the Sun’s rays adorned Ram Lalla’s forehead with a divine ’tilak’.

Worshippers in Ayodhya

Before entering the Ram shrine, worshipers took a plunge in the holy waters of Ayodhya’s Saryu River. Devotees began gathering to the ghats at night. ‘Darshan’ began at the Ram Temple around 3:30 a.m.

Consecration of the Ram idol

This will be the first Ram Navami since Prime Minister Narendra Modi consecrated the Ram statue at the new temple, which opened on January 22.

LED displays set up

Anil Mishra, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, stated that worshipers will be allowed to enter the Ram temple during the Surya tilak. The temple trust is putting up approximately 100 LED displays, while the government is putting up 50, to depict the Ram Navami celebrations. No matter where they are, everyone will be able to see the festivities.

Regarding security measures, IG (Ayodhya Range) Praveen Kumar states that arrangements for devotees are prepared. All of the areas are separated into zones and sectors. Volunteers and force multipliers are deployed. The movement of large vehicles is also planned, the IG informs ANI.

The science behind Surya Tilak

The Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust stated that scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee estimated the timings of Surya tilak based on the movement of the Sun. An optomechanical system with premium mirrors and lenses will be used to carry out Ram Lalla’s “Surya Abhishek,” the Trust said in a statement.

PM Modi’s suggestions

While visiting Ayodhya for the Deepotsav celebration on October 23, 2022, PM Narendra Modi proposed to the trust members that the sanctum-sanctorum of the Ram Mandir should be designed to allow sunlight to directly illuminate the Ram Lalla idol on Ram Navami, mirroring the phenomenon observed at the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.

At the Ram temple, a permanent canopy for devotees

To shield devotees from the sun, a permanent canopy has been installed on the Janmabhoomi Path, while a temporary cover has also been installed on the Bhakti Path. In addition, the Ayodhya administration has installed assistance booths at 29 locations throughout the Mela region, extending from Tedhi Bazar to Naya Ghat.

Ram temple Darshan time

The trust extends the Darshan period to 19 hours, starting at the Mangala Aarti and concluding at 11 pm. During the four bhog offerings, the curtain is closed for only five minutes.
