Guwahati: Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna Rahul Gandhi, a senior Congress leader, said on Monday that he was prevented from going to Batadrava Than, the birthplace of saint Srimanta Sankardeva in Assam. The event happened the day after Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, encouraged him to visit the location following the Ram Temple at Ayodhya’s consecration ceremony in order to avoid “unnecessary competition”.
Gandhi claimed that even though he had been invited, he was prevented from going to the location while on the Assam leg of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. He asserted that no explanation has been given by the authorities for their action.
“Our goal is to see the temple. They invited us, but now they’re saying we can’t come. Nothing that we do will be done against our will. We are questioning them as to why we must perform our yatra. We promise not to wake anyone up. There, we have an invitation,” he declared.
Gandhi is seen in a video questioning the cops about why they were stopping him.
“What’s wrong, brother? Can I visit the barricades to see them? “What error have I committed that prevents me from entering the temple?” he continued.
The president of the Batadrava Than management committee, Jogendra Narayan Dev Mahanta, stated that 10,000 visitors were anticipated at the shrine.
He stated, “We do not want Rahul Gandhi to come here at that time because there might be some challenges in the process of welcoming him.” “…He is invited to visit us tomorrow after 3 p.m., and we will be happy to greet him warmly. The local MLA, District Commissioner, and SP have already been notified.”
Gandhi was asked not to visit the shrine on Sunday by Sarma.
“We will ask Rahul Gandhi to refrain from going to Batadrava on Monday during the Ram Temple’s consecration ceremony because it will portray Assam in an unfavorable light,” Sarma stated.
