On Wednesday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh distanced his party from Mani Shankar Aiyar’s remarks about China. According to the leader, the former union minister made the remarks in his “personal capacity”.
Mani Shankar Aiyar ignited a big political uproar on Tuesday when he claimed during an event that the Chinese “allegedly invaded India” in October 1962. The remark generated a wave of criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), causing the Congress to distance itself from Aiyar’s remarks.
Jairam Ramesh stated earlier in the day that Aiyar “subsequently apologized unreservedly” for his comments.
Ramesh told ANI, Who is Mani Shankar Aiyar?” He is not an official, but rather a former member of parliament and minister. He can say whatever he wants in his capacity.
