Mamata Banerjee: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, asserting that one could trust a poisonous snake over the saffron camp. Banerjee accused the BJP of violating the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

During an election rally in Cooch Behar, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are acting in favor of the BJP. She called upon the Election Commission to investigate the matter and ensure fair treatment for all political parties.

The BJP is insisting on re-registering names for the Awas Yojna. Why the need for re-registration? They seek additional enrollment just to eventually remove it. You might trust a poisonous snake, you could even handle it, but placing trust in the BJP is out of the question… The BJP is causing harm to the nation, she stated.

Emphasizing that her party TMC will not succumb to the intimidation of central agencies,” Banerjee encouraged women in Cooch Behar to lodge police complaints in case of instances of BSF mistreating locals before the scheduled polls on April 19.

The central investigative bodies such as the NIA, Income Tax, BSF, and CISF are aligned with the BJP. We earnestly request the Election Commission to guarantee fairness as these central agencies are favoring the saffron party. The BJP is breaching the MCC, she stated.

Mamata Banerjee asserted that the BJP adheres strictly to the principle of “one nation, one party.”

Banerjee reiterated her stance of not implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state, cautioning that applying for CAA would categorize an individual as a foreigner and advised against it.

Labeling the BJP as a “jumla” party, the TMC leader accused the saffron party of spreading falsehoods regarding the CAA.

The CAA is a ploy to convert lawful citizens into foreigners. Once the BJP enforces the CAA, the NRC will inevitably follow. We will not permit either the CAA or the NRC in West Bengal. Applying for it would result in being labeled as foreigners, Banerjee stated.

On Thursday, PM Modi spoke at a public rally in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. He sarcastically thanked Mamata Didi, recalling an incident from 2019 where a platform was built in the rally ground to reduce its size. PM Modi remarked that this time such actions weren’t taken, allowing him the opportunity to address the public without obstruction.
