The shocks were felt following Thursday’s 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul. Following the shocks, several other cities trembled, including Sargodha in Punjab, Khushab and its environs, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakkar, and Nowshera. According to PTI, quoting Geo News, there were also tremors near Muzaffarabad, in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Chief meteorologist of PMD, Sardar Sarfaraz, was quoted by Geo News as saying that there is a significant likelihood of aftershocks in the area due to the tremendous strength of the earthquake. He remarked, “The same had also occurred in Japan, which had been hit by a strong earthquake on January 1.”

Pakistan is situated in a seismically active area that frequently experiences tremors and earthquakes of various intensities. In October 2005, the nation had its deadliest earthquake to date, which claimed over 74,000 lives and caused immense destruction.
