Cyclone Michaung: AP is placed on red alert by IMD

Cyclone Michaung: The meteorological authority in Amaravati, IMD, issues a red alert for Andhra Pradesh, cautioning about cyclone “Michaung” anticipated to bring substantial rainfall and strong winds to Rayalaseema and the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh from December 3 to December 5.

IMD has issued a warning to farmers in certain areas of Andhra Pradesh, urging them to safeguard their crops.

Around December 3, the brewing cyclone storm Michaung is set to take shape in the southwestern Bay of Bengal, with a projected landfall on December 4 along the northern and southern coasts of Andhra Pradesh, specifically in the vicinity of Chennai and Machilipatnam.

For Monday and Tuesday (December 4 and December 5), AP is under a red alert.

According to the report, the depression that developed over the Bay of Bengal will likely become a cyclone storm Michaung on Sunday after intensifying into a deep depression on Saturday.

On Sunday and Monday, coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few locations and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated spots, according to Dr. S. Karuna Sagar, a scientist at IMD-Amaravati.

Anticipate squally winds, intertwined with heavy rainfall and lightning, poised to sweep through the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Brace for rough sea conditions, prompting IMD’s recommendations for precautionary measures in offshore activities.

December 3

In isolated areas over the districts of West Godavari, Konaseema, East Godavari, Kakinada, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, and Tirupati, there is a chance of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (squally winds of speed 50kmph to 65kmph and 90kmph). Over the districts of Eluru, ASR, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Palnadu, Guntur, NTR, Chittoor, Annamayya, and YSR Kadapa, there is a chance of isolated heavy rainfall (squally winds of speed 30-55 kmph).

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (squally winds of 50 kmph to 65 kmph and 90 kmph) is possible in isolated areas over the districts of West Godavari, Konaseema, East Godavari, Anakapalle, Bapatla, Krishna, Nellore, Prakasham, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Kakinada. There is a chance of isolated heavy rainfall over the districts of Eluru, ASR, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Palnadu, Guntur, NTR, Chittoor, Annamayya, and YSR Kadapa (squally winds of speed 30-55 kmph).

December 4

There is a chance of isolated areas of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Eluru, Visakhapatnam, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Palnadu, Guntur, and NTR—significant rainfall in isolated areas over the districts of YSR Kadapa, Nandyal, Annamayya, and Chittoor.

December 5

Rainfall in the West Godavari, Konaseema, East Godavari, Kakinada, ASR, Anakapalle, and Eluru districts is expected to be heavy to extremely heavy. (Slightly gusty winds, reaching a top speed of 75 kmph).

There may be isolated areas of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the Krishna and NTR districts. There is a chance of isolated areas of heavy rainfall in the districts of Palnadu, Guntur, and Bapatla.
