The Congress party unveiled its manifesto on Friday, focusing on the five “pillars of justice” in advance of the next Lok Sabha elections. The party prioritized caste census, employment opportunities, and monetary transfers for women in its agenda.

According to the party’s manifesto

  • Congress will conduct a national socio-economic caste census to count castes, sub-castes, and their socioeconomic status. Based on the facts, the party stated that it would strengthen affirmative action policies.
  • The party assures that it will enact a constitutional amendment to increase the current 50 percent limit on reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
  • A 10 percent reservation in jobs and educational institutions for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be implemented across all castes and communities, without any form of discrimination.
  • The party commits to filling all outstanding vacancies in positions reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes within one year.
  • The Legislature would eliminate contracting from regular jobs in federal and state agencies and ensure regular appointments of such persons.
  • The party will give the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes more access to institutional financing so they can start enterprises, build homes, and buy property.
  • Under the Land Ceiling Acts, Congress will create a body to oversee the allocation of surplus and government land to the underprivileged.
