Buddha is considered to be the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu in North India, while Lord Krishna is considered to be the eighth incarnation. On the other hand, Buddhism in South India does not view Buddha as a manifestation of Vishnu. As an alternative, Krishna is regarded as the ninth incarnation and Balarama as the eighth. Buddhism rejects the idea that Buddha is an avatar of Lord Vishnu, although the majority of Vaishnava organizations acknowledge Balarama as a manifestation of Vishnu.
