Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday to attend the 15th BRICS Summit, which will be held on August 22-24. The Prime Minister stated in advance of his visit that BRICS has evolved into a forum for debating and deliberating on matters of significance to the whole Global South. He went on to say that the summit will be a good opportunity for the BRICS to identify future areas of cooperation and assess institutional growth.

“I am visiting the Republic of South Africa from 22-24 August 2023 at the invitation of H.E Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, to attend the 15th BRICS Summit being held in Johannesburg under the South African Chairmanship,” PM Modi said, as per an official release by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

According to the Prime Minister, has been pursuing a robust cooperation agenda across multiple sectors, and members appreciate that BRICS has become a venue for debating and deliberating on matters of significance to the whole Global South.

On his first visit to Greece in 40 years, the Prime Minister stated that he will fly to Athens, Greece on August 25, 2023, at the invitation of his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “This is my first trip to this ancient land.” “It is an honor for me to be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Greece in 40 years,” he remarked.

The PM stated that links between India and Greece “stretch back over two millennia,” and that “our ties have been strengthened by shared values of democracy, rule of law, and pluralism.”
