Balakrishna has inaugurated the Anna Canteen in Hindupur, marking a significant moment following the TDP alliance’s rise to power in Andhra Pradesh. This development has taken political analysts by surprise, as the alliance achieved a record-breaking victory. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has consistently promised to resume numerous projects halted by the previous YCP government, and he is preparing to fulfill these promises now that the TDP alliance is in power. However, in one regard, Balayya has outpaced his brother-in-law Chandrababu.
Nandamuri Balakrishna, the charismatic Natasimha, celebrated his 64th birthday on Monday. This year, Balakrishna marked the occasion in his constituency, Hindupur. As part of the celebrations, he inaugurated an Anna Canteen. This canteen, named “Balayya,” was opened to commemorate his hat-trick victory from Hindupur and the return of TDP to power in the state. Notably, this is the first Anna Canteen established in the state. Following their victory in the 2014 elections, the TDP initiated these canteens. With a commitment to providing quality and delicious food to the poor at affordable prices, Chandrababu Naidu originally introduced the canteens.

However, the YCP won the 2019 elections and the TDP lost. But Anna’s canteens were closed under YS Jagan’s rule. When they were in the opposition, the TDP leaders were incensed over this. Large-scale demonstrations were also organized, with the slogan “It’s unfair to close the canteens that feed the impoverished at a reduced cost.” In this order, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, together with Balakrishna and Nara Lokesh, have repeatedly pledged that, should they win power, they will reopen the canteens.

The TDP won the 2024 AP elections. Chandrababu Naidu will soon take the oath of office as Chief Minister again. There are also plans to reopen Anna canteens as soon as the administration decides. However, Hindupuram MLA Balakrishna established Anna canteen before Chandrababu. Balayya opened Anna Canteen in Hindupuram on his birthday. In this way, he was one step ahead of his brother-in-law.
