Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was granted permission to bring books inside the Tihar Jail after the court prolonged his judicial custody till April 15.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, was remanded to judicial custody until April 15 by the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday. Throughout the hearing, Kejriwal presented several requests to the court, one of which was the provision of specific books.

The court then allowed him to retrieve many personal items from his Tihar detention cell, including literature, medication, and his religious locket. The court has also ordered that Kejriwal be given home-cooked food while in detention.

Arvind Kejriwal, the first sitting chief minister to be sent to Tihar Jail, was allowed to bring three books into his cell: the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayan, and ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’. He is allowed to read books and watch television while in jail, and he will be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by CCTV cameras.

Kejriwal provided a list of six persons he would like to meet according to the regulations. Sandeep Pathak, the general secretary of the AAP (organization), his wife Sunita Kejriwal, their son and daughter, and his private secretary, Bibhav Kumar are on the list.

He (Kejriwal) was brought to Tihar jail at 4 pm and was taken to jail number 2, a jail officer told PTI. His vitals were checked and he underwent a medical examination. Subsequently, he was placed in the cell by himself.

Kejriwal also has diabetes, which is why he was allowed to eat some toffees within the jail to keep his sugar levels normal. He was also allowed to bring his medication.

A CCTV camera has been installed in Kejriwal’s cell, and he will be monitored 24 hours a day. According to jail manuals, each inmate’s cell and ward is equipped with a television.

Unlike other prisoners at Tihar Jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be fed home-cooked meals. However, according to jail regulations, he will consume tea, and meals, and watch television at the same time as the other convicts.

An inmate’s morning meal consists of tea, cookies, and snacks, such as “Dalia,” between seven and eight in the morning. An official told PTI that the lunch consists of rice or chapati, dal, and one vegetable.

From 12 to 3 p.m., he claims, the wards close. Around 4:00 pm, tea is served once more. The official stated that the same selection of foods, including dal, rice, chapati, and veggies, are served for dinner by 7 p.m.
