AP Politics: The BJP seems to be treading cautiously in Andhra Pradesh. Despite being allotted a fair share of Assembly and MP seats as part of the tripartite alliance, there’s a noticeable lack of enthusiasm from both the central and state leadership when it comes to hitting the campaign trail. Save for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formal address at a public gathering in Chilakaluripet about a month ago, there’s been little visible effort to drum up support on the streets. It appears the BJP is opting for a more subdued approach, perhaps choosing strategic engagements over aggressive campaigning at this juncture.

This time around, a notable trend is emerging among BJP candidates in Andhra Pradesh – many of them have defected from the TDP to join the BJP ranks. It’s a significant shift considering the historical context: back in 2014, the TDP rode to victory on the coattails of its alliance with the BJP and Jana Sena. However, come 2019, the TDP opted to go solo and faced a resounding defeat. In the aftermath of that setback, the TDP found itself in a position where collaboration with the BJP became a necessity rather than a choice. Since 2019, the YCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy has been seen lending support to the BJP on various fronts. This indicates a certain pragmatism in Andhra Pradesh’s political scene, where regardless of party affiliation, leaders like Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP, or Pawan Kalyan of the JSP seem inclined to align with the BJP when it suits their interests. It underscores the fluid nature of political alliances and the strategic maneuvering that takes place behind the scenes in the state.

The national party exudes unwavering confidence that regardless of the outcome of the 2024 elections, their allegiance will firmly lie with the BJP. This assurance reflects the belief that their support is a guaranteed asset for the BJP, emphasizing the depth of their commitment to the larger national political landscape.

Therefore, it is staying out of Andhra Pradesh politics and playing it safe.
