UP Hathras: At least 116 people, including 106 women and seven children, died in a terrible stampede on Tuesday afternoon in the Hathras region of Uttar Pradesh during a religious meeting. Shortly after religious leader Saakar Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba, also known as Suraj Pal, spoke to his followers in a tent erected in Rati Bhanpur hamlet in the Sikandra Rau region, a rush broke out.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as well as senior police officers were at the scene quickly to handle the aftermath. To guarantee a comprehensive inquiry and collect evidence, a dog squad and forensic team were dispatched. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu sent their sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

In addition, authorities have filed a lawsuit against the religious congregation’s organizers after realizing that more people attended the event than could have fit in the designated space. A police official commented, “Many people rushed to leave the venue while others sought blessings from the baba, leading to a chaotic situation.”

During a rush during a religious gathering in a hamlet in the Hathras district on Tuesday, 116 people perished and dozens more were injured, according to Aligarh Range IG Shalabh Mathur, who spoke to PTI. According to Rajesh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police in Etah, the event happened during a “satsang” in Pulrai village, he told PTI.

The authorities first stated that the terrible occurrence was caused in part by suffocation and congestion because of the tiny venue size. When the “Satsang” concluded, many started to leave, which caused pandemonium and fear among the large crowd. “There was a huge crowd, no way out, and everyone fell on each other,” a survivor described the terrifying event. My path was obstructed by motorcycles parked outside. Many people passed out, and others died.”

The district administration is looking into the situation, according to Hathras DM Ashish Kumar. While individuals are still recovering, the injured are being sent to the hospital. The physicians have told me that there have been over 50–60 deaths. The SDM granted permission for the event to go place, and it was private. A committee of high standing has been established to look into the situation. The administration’s main priority is to assist the injured and the surviving family members of the deceased as much as possible.”

Following the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath quickly offered his sympathies and announced financial assistance for the impacted families. “The state government will conduct a thorough investigation to determine whether this was an accident or a conspiracy,” he vowed. Those found guilty will face harsh consequences. To look into what caused the stampede, a high-level commission headed by the Aligarh Commissioner and the Additional Director General of Police, Agra, was established.

A compensation of ₹ 50,000 has been provided for the injured and ₹ 2 lakh apiece for the relatives of the deceased.”UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased individuals involved in the Hathras district disaster. He has also hoped for the injured people to heal quickly. He has instructed district administration representatives to expedite relief efforts on the scene and to transport injured patients right away to a hospital for appropriate care.
