The government of Andhra Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with edX, a renowned E-learning portal that offers Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Higher Education Principal Secretary J Syamala Rao and edX Founder and Padmashree awardee Anant Agarwal inked the agreement on Thursday at the camp office in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Memorandum of Understanding with edX, a learning platform developed by the Universities of Harvard and Massachusetts, will allow higher education students to learn the most recent global courses for free and receive joint certificates from edX and Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, and other world educational institutions.

Speaking on the event, the Chief Minister stated that the MoU will be a game changer for individuals looking to pursue world-class courses, gain the most up-to-date knowledge, and compete on worldwide platforms. It will benefit underprivileged kids in particular, and their learning and career chances will expand significantly.

The MoU will assist all higher education students in the state in learning modern and emerging courses in science, engineering, medical, arts, business, social, and technology disciplines that are not currently offered in the country. It would also aid in overcoming the scarcity of qualified faculty. It will result in significant changes in higher education learning and teaching, he said, adding that we must revamp and restructure our syllabus in all major courses such as engineering, medicine, and commerce to incorporate the necessary verticals. This should be done and supervised by a newly formed Board, and all of these reforms should benefit our students and assist them achieve the pinnacle of their careers.

Education Minister B Satyanarayana, Chairman of the Higher Education Council Prof K Hemachandra Reddy, Principal Secretaries Praveen Prakash (School Education) and J Syamala Rao (Higher Education), representatives from edX, and other top officials were in attendance.
