Plans for the Moosi River Revival
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has started a series of review meetings on the Moosi River revival project, aiming to restore and enhance the river’s health and surroundings. The project’s first phase will focus on developing the area from Usman Sagar and Himayat Sagar to Bapu Ghat, covering a significant part of the river’s stretch. The Congress government is also planning to install the world’s tallest statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat, adding a symbol of peace and unity to the project.
Designing and Preparing for a Grand Vision
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has intensified efforts, regularly meeting with officials to discuss project details. He emphasized the need for constructing a trunk line that would allow the movement of Godavari waters from Mallanna Sagar to Gandipet. This trunk line is expected to strengthen the water supply and assist in the river’s revival. The government will invite tenders for the construction of the trunk line within the next couple of days, while tenders for setting up Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are expected to open within the next ten days.
Phase-Wise Development for the Project
The state government has decided to approach the Moosi River purification and rejuvenation project in two stages to ensure smooth and continuous progress. In the first phase, efforts will focus on the areas where the river flows directly, concentrating on the riverbed and its embankments. This phase will also include setting up a retaining wall on both sides of the river to prevent flooding and control water flow.
The second phase will expand to a buffer zone area of 50 meters on either side of the Moosi River, allowing for broader development around the river. To keep the project organized, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will cover both phases under a single plan. As soon as the first phase is completed, work on the second phase will begin, ensuring the project moves ahead smoothly without delays.
Addressing Housing for Families Along the Moosi River
Relocation and Housing for Affected Families
The project impacts about 1600 families that have settled in Moosi Riverbed currently. The government has nonetheless begun moving most of these families offering them double bedroom homes. Some have been provided with houses and they have even started living in their houses. Because the number of people to be affected is serious; the government has agreed to provide 150-200 square yards of plots of land near the ring road to the affected families that will be displaced. This approach is used in a bid to ensure that families in question are well taken care of and perhaps provide for other forms of homes.
Construction of a Retaining Wall and Aesthetic Improvements to the River
In the first phase, the construction of a retaining wall on both sides of the Moosi River will also be done. This wall shall also assist in cleaning water contained within it that forms the river and also in controlling the water level. The space near the overbank will also be planted with trees and designed with various features adding recreational attractiveness to the river vicinity. The government believes that by engineering the riverbed into a cleaner and more controlled one it was going to improve the environmental and aesthetic state of the Moosi River.

As part of the buffer zone in the second phase, the government plans to build wide roads on both sides of the river. These roads will span 55 kilometers along the river’s length, providing a smooth route for transport and allowing easy access for the community. Additionally, new infrastructure projects will be developed alongside these roads, further boosting the region’s development. This comprehensive approach to infrastructure will help create a well-connected and vibrant area around the Moosi River.

The measures of purification involve erecting STPs to treat sewage and avert the pollutants from getting into the river. Contouring the area planting new trees also improving the water quality of the river will all aid in making the river look and become healthier. By doing this, the government seeks to change the Moosi River into a clean and socially secure water supply for the people.
Thus, with the help of this project, the Congress government with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy plans to attract both state and private investments to grow the territories near the Moosi River.
