Saudi King Salman will be treated for lung inflammation hours

Saudi King Salman: King Salman of Saudi Arabia is set to receive treatment for lung inflammation at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah, according to the state news agency. The announcement came shortly after the 88-year-old monarch underwent medical examinations. The royal court stated that the treatment plan involves administering antibiotics until the inflammation diminishes.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who serves as the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, has delayed his planned visit to Japan due to King Salman’s health issues, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi confirmed. Speaking at a news conference in Tokyo, Hayashi stated, “Saudi Arabia has informed the Japanese government that Crown Prince Mohammed’s scheduled visit, which was set to commence on the 20th, had to be postponed because of King Salman’s health condition.”

Earlier on Sunday, King Salman underwent medical examinations at the royal clinics located in Al Salam Palace due to reported “elevated temperature and joint discomfort,” as per the Saudi state news agency.

State TV reported that the king’s last hospital admission was in April for a routine checkup.

After more than 2-1/2 years as the crown prince and deputy premier, King Salman, the custodian of Islam’s holiest sites, assumed the throne of the world’s leading oil exporter in 2015.

Just as the crown prince was in discussions with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in the kingdom regarding a strategic agreement between Washington and Riyadh, the onset of his illness occurred.
