Rahul Gandhi Meets His Cousin, BJP MP Varun Gandhi, In Kedarnath
Rahul Gandhi: The meeting of the cousins, who are rarely seen together in public, sparked speculation in some quarters about Varun Gandhi’s political future.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi and his cousin Varun Gandhi, a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh, had a brief meeting at the Kedarnath temple on Tuesday, where both had gone to pray.
Varun Gandhi, the son of Sanjay and Maneka Gandhi, has been absent from key BJP meetings in recent months, and his comments on critical issues, such as the now-repealed farm laws, have sometimes contradicted the party’s position.
According to sources, the Gandhis briefly met outside the revered shrine and exchanged pleasantries. They described the meeting as very short and warm.
Rahul was very happy to meet Varun’s daughter, they said, adding that even though the two cousins do not meet, they have “good and civil” ties.
According to the sources, no political issues were discussed at the meeting.
When asked whether Varun Gandhi would be welcome in the Congress during a press conference last year, Rahul Gandhi said that while anyone was welcome, Varun had adopted the ideology of the BJP/RSS against which the Congress was fighting.
Rahul Gandhi has spent the last three days in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, while Varun Gandhi and his family visited the Lord Shiva temple on Tuesday.
