Prajwal Revanna case: The commission has requested a comprehensive report detailing the actions taken by the relevant police authority to be submitted to it within three days.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has requested a report from the Karnataka police within three days regarding allegations of sexual abuse involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna.

In a letter addressed to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Karnataka, the NCW stated that it had come across several video clips of an explicit nature allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna, the sitting MP for the Lok Sabha from the Hassan constituency, engaging in sexual misconduct with numerous women. These clips have been circulating on social media platforms.

Expressing strong condemnation of the incident, the Commission emphasized its deep concern over such occurrences. It highlighted that events like these not only endanger the safety of women but also contribute to a culture of disrespect and violence against them. The Commission urged the concerned police authorities to take prompt and decisive action to swiftly apprehend the accused, who is reported to have fled the country.

The commission has insisted on receiving a detailed report outlining the actions taken by the relevant police authority within three days.

Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of NCW, stated that the State Women’s commission had already taken note of the issue, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). She also raised questions about why the state government allowed Revanna to leave.

We have also queried the DGP about the current status. Why did the government permit him to leave when the NCW had filed a complaint? Why wasn’t police action taken, and why were no arrests made? The Karnataka government needs to address these questions. This is a significant issue. Numerous women have reportedly been subjected to sexual assault. Whether the videos are recent or old, a crime remains a crime,” she remarked.
