Japan’s defense ministry reported that the missile test conducted by North Korea on Monday belonged to the intercontinental ballistic missile class, possessing a potential range that could encompass the entire territory of the United States.

Shingo Miyake, the parliamentary vice-minister of defense, stated that the recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) suggests a potential flying range exceeding 15,000 kilometers (9,320 miles), depending on the trajectory and warhead weight. He mentioned that the missile’s trajectory indicates it covered approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) while reaching a remarkable maximum altitude exceeding 6,000 kilometers (3,720 miles).

He noted that the missile, estimated to have traveled for 73 minutes, descended into the Sea of Japan at approximately 9:37 am (0037 GMT).

The impact occurred 250 kilometers northwest of Okushiri island, Hokkaido, outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Miyake emphasized that Japan firmly registered its protest against the launch, utilizing the embassy channel in Beijing this time, and issued a strong condemnation of the event.
