Lok Sabha India vs. NDA on NEET; Congress MP says Rahul

Lok Sabha: On Friday, the Congress-led INDIA bloc and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance clashed in Parliament over the former’s demand to prioritize a debate on the contentious NEET issue by suspending all other legislative business. Amid the uproar from the Opposition, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House until Monday.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Deepender Hooda claimed that the commotion erupted after the mic of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was switched off.

The continuous paper leaks in the country have ruined the future of the youth, with the highest number of incidents occurring in Haryana. Dharmendra Pradhan, the union minister of education, is avoiding accountability for the NEET exam leak. We brought this issue up for discussion, and when it was raised in the House, the mic was switched off. If the Leader of the Opposition’s microphone is switched off, it naturally angers other Opposition MPs, which is exactly what happened in the House. We demand a discussion on this issue, he said.

On Friday morning, Congress filed adjournment motions in both Houses, seeking to suspend other business for an immediate discussion on the NEET issues. However, Speaker Om Birla declined, stating that the House was scheduled to discuss the Motion of Thanks on President Draupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament. This refusal prompted an uproar.

After, Birla adjourned the House. Birla’s election had turned into the first point of dispute in the 18th Lok Sabha session.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated following the adjournment that the Congress did not want the House to continue in session.

On behalf of the government, we have made it clear that we will provide detailed information on any issue raised. We remind the members that the government is always open to dialogue.. However, the Congress party’s tendency to disrupt the proceedings of the House and prevent it from functioning is not right. I condemn this behavior and appeal for it to not happen again, he said.

Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, called for a discussion on NEET in Parliament, emphasizing that the discussion should occur respectfully.
