Kuwait fire accident: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has claimed that the central government has denied her permission to travel to Kuwait to help and organize relief efforts for the victims of the Mangaf fire. Most of the dead are from India, mostly from Kerala.

What we have requested now from the central government is that we be allowed to go to Kuwait to stand with our people affected by the tragedy and coordinate the operations there. That permission has been denied,” Veena George told reporters Thursday. The state government had decided to send George to Kuwait to help with relief efforts including treating the wounded and repatriating the dead.

The minister said he waited for hours at the airport hoping to get clearance from the foreign ministry.

The Kuwait Fire killed 49 people, 40 of them Indians. Of the Indian deaths, 23 are from Kerala.

Meanwhile, a special IAF aircraft carrying the deceased’s body remains has departed from Kuwait for Kochi. Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, who worked with Kuwaiti authorities to guarantee the prompt repatriation, is also involved. The plane is scheduled to arrive in Kochi at 11 a.m. before departing for Delhi.  -Kuwait fire accident

Arrangements have been made at Kochi airport to receive the deceased’s remains. Ernakulam Collector NSK Umesh stated The last respects would be paid by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, state ministers, and local people leaders…Exclusive ambulances have been ordered for each body…We will ensure that the dead are transported safely to their respective homes.

Additionally, the families of the deceased would receive an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
