On the second day of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest by farmers, an innovative tactic surfaced as protesting farmers utilized kites to thwart government drones deployed to release tear gas canisters on them.

Tensions escalated at the Shambhu border, close to Ambala, as security forces discharged tear gas shells at the demonstrators. The clever tactic entails using the extended strings of kites to ensnare the rotors of the drones, which could lead to their potential crash.
Earlier today, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda made an appeal to the farmers, emphasizing the significance of constructive dialogue and urging them to refrain from actions that disturb the routine life of the general public. Amidst the persistent deadlock between the Center and farmer leaders, the farmers persisted in assembling at the Shambhu border, readying themselves to breach multi-layered barricades. Young farmers mobilized their tractors, poised to dismantle the cemented blocks obstructing their advancement.

The standoff grew more intense as security forces from Haryana utilized tear gas shells to scatter the protesters, leading the farmers to take defensive measures. They prepared by carrying water bottles, dampened clothing, and even protective gear to reduce the effects of tear gas. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a notable farmer leader, condemned the government’s approach, alleging that it favored corporate interests over the demands of the farmers. Mr. Pandher stated, “We implore the government to cease these actions and establish a conducive atmosphere. We were prepared for discussions yesterday, and we remain prepared today as well.”
Chief among these requests is the implementation of a law ensuring a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. Additional crucial issues include the repeal of the Electricity Act 2020, compensation for farmers who lost their lives in Lakhimpur Kheri, and the dismissal of charges against individuals engaged in the farmers’ movement.
On Tuesday, conflicts with Haryana Police resulted in injuries for both sides, with the police using tear gas and water cannons.
