Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday night in connection with a land scam case. Consequently, Champai Soren, a cabinet minister, is set to assume the role of the next chief minister of Jharkhand. A short while ago, ex-Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrived at Raj Bhawan to officially resign from his position as the chief minister.
Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, filed a formal complaint (FIR) against the ED personnel at a Ranchi SC/ST police station earlier in the day over the searches at his Delhi home. One BMW vehicle and ₹36 lakh in cash were taken from Soren’s home by the ED. Hemant Soren was scheduled to be questioned by the ED this morning on the money laundering case. The opposition BJP labeled Hemant Soren “missing” and said he was fleeing from the federal agency the day before, setting off a high-stakes political drama in the state.
