Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), has said that the blocking option will be disabled for users since it “makes no sense.” However, users will still have the option to prevent people from messaging them directly he said that.

Musk has made a lot of changes since purchasing the website in a $44 billion acquisition last year, and this is just one of them. Currently, blocking an account prohibits posts from that account from showing up in the blocker’s timeline and vice versa. The blocked account also loses the ability to view the postings and send messages to the blocker.

It’s interesting to note that Musk’s approach was supported by Jack Dorsey, the former founder of Twitter, who tweeted “100%. Mute only.” Some people have expressed worry that muting an account could not offer enough defense against harassment, abuse, or stalking. Currently, the muted account can still watch and respond to the muter’s posts even though the mute function just silences notifications about the account’s postings.
