Reopening of Anna Canteens: Good News for AP Residents
The government has confirmed its plans to reopen across Andhra Pradesh, with the official launch date set for August 15. The aim is to start 100 canteens in all 33 municipalities, with fast-paced arrangements being made to meet the deadline. During a review meeting led by Municipal Minister Narayana, officials assured that these canteens would be operational by the 10th of August. The minister directed municipal commissioners to focus fully on this initiative, with an additional 83 canteens expected to be completed by the end of August and 20 more by the end of September.
Naming Debate: Anna Canteens or Dokka Seethamma Canteens?
A debate has emerged over whether the canteens will continue under the name “Anna Canteens” or be renamed in honor of Dokka Seethamma. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had proposed renaming a government scheme after Dokka Seethamma, leading to speculation that the canteens might adopt this new name.

Ultimately, the government decided that the name would retain their original name, “Anna Canteens.” Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan suggested maintaining the name used up until 2019. However, the government has chosen to honor Dokka Seethamma by naming the mid-day meal scheme in Andhra Pradesh after her. Pawan Kalyan noted that naming the mid-day meal program after Dokka Seethamma, revered as Annapurna in Andhra Pradesh, is a fitting tribute.
