Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), announced on Tuesday the removal of her nephew, from his position as her political successor and the party’s National Coordinator. She cited the necessity for him to attain “maturity” before assuming these responsibilities.

In a series of messages on X (Twitter), Mayawati stated, “It is well-known that BSP, beyond being merely a political party, embodies a movement for the self-respect and dignity envisioned by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, as well as for social transformation, to which Shri Kanshi Ram and I have devoted our entire lives. We are also grooming a new generation to carry forward this momentum.”

In a similar vein, while advancing the roles of other individuals within the party, I appointed Shri Akash Anand as the National Coordinator and designated him as my successor. However, considering the paramount interests of the party and the broader movement, he is now relieved of these significant duties until he achieves the requisite level of maturity, she elaborated.

Mayawati also conveyed that Anand Kumar, Akash’s father, will maintain his position within the party.

Last year, on December 10th, Mayawati officially named Akash Anand, aged 28 and holding an MBA from London, as her successor. Anand was entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the party’s National Coordinator.
