Omicron: So far, cases of the Covid-19 subvariant JN.1 have been reported in Goa, Kerala, and Maharashtra.

So far, 21 cases of Covid-19 subvariant JN.1 have been reported across the country. There have been reports of the new coronavirus variant in Goa, Kerala, and Maharashtra.

While Goa has reported 19 cases of Covid sub-variant JN.1, Kerala and Maharashtra have each reported one case.

JN.1, a descendant of the Omicron lineage, has become one of the most rapidly spreading viruses in recent weeks.

Amid an increase in COVID cases across the country, NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr V K Paul said on Wednesday that there was no need to panic.

According to Paul, the scientific community in India is keeping a close eye on the new variant. VK Paul, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of states stepping up COVID readiness, ramping up testing, and strengthening their surveillance systems.

Meanwhile, the Centre has warned states and union territories to be on the lookout as Covid cases spread across the country. The advisory directed states to regularly monitor and report cases of influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory illness in all health facilities on a district-by-district basis.
